(Actual) Blog Entry #1-Why did I choose this class?
I chose to take this class, "Reel Food & World Cinema", not just to fulfill the McDaniel Plan, but because of a few other reasons. First of all, since I am a Cinema Major here at McDaniel, I am trying to take as many classes as possible that allow me to be able to watch and analyze films, which has slowly become one of my passions in each semester. I don't just watch films for the sake of watching them, but instead take part in analyzing them as well to determine the meaning (if any) in each film. Also, one of the Cinema professors, Richard Brett, recommended this class for me after I took a few classes with him last year. In this course, I hope to be able to successfully analyze the films shown in this class just as I would in any other class. In addition, I also hope to learn about the different ways in which other countries and cultures around the world cook and handle food, and how this preparation of the food can potentially reflect on the culture itself.
